The Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against a man who exploited his own wife, forcing her to work as a prostitute.
The Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office told MTI on Tuesday that the 53-year-old man married the later victim in 2006, who was already involved in prostitution at that time. The husband did not have a job or independent income, his livelihood was covered by his wife’s income from sexual services. According to the prosecutor’s office, during their marriage, the man transported his wife to street prostitution, checked on her several times during the day, and regularly took the money she earned. The victim wanted to stop the prostitution activity several times, but the accused did not allow this, and in some cases forced his spouse to continue with threats and abuse. It happened that he tore the victim’s hair, cut her leg, but also that he beat her so badly that she could not even work. In addition, the man also threatened to hurt the woman’s minor child – from someone else – they wrote. The victim finally gave up prostitution in 2017 and moved away from the accused, and filed for divorce in 2019. The Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office accuses the man of the crime of human trafficking committed for the purpose of exploitation, violence and threats, and has made a motion for the Metropolitan Court to sentence the accused to prison and a fine, the announcement states.
