The Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office has brought charges against a 28-year-old man who stabbed a young French man to death in downtown Budapest in February 2020, the Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office told MTI on Tuesday.
According to the indictment, the accused with American-British-Hungarian citizenship came to Budapest to visit relatives in December 2019.
On February 7th, 2020, the man went out to have fun with a friend in the evening. During the night, they went to several downtown nightclubs, and the accused consumed a large amount of alcohol.
In the early hours of the morning, while he was on his way home, he crossed the road next to Károlyi kert in the 5th district and started towards the 25-year-old French man who was walking on the sidewalk on the other side.
The defendant approached the victim running, and when he reached him, he hit him twice in the face and stabbed him in the chest with the knife he was carrying. The French man died on the spot, even immediate medical help could not have saved his life, they added.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the accused ran away from the scene after the attack.
The Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office filed an indictment against the 28-year-old man under arrest for the crime of manslaughter and proposes the imposition of a prison sentence to be executed.
