From 1 July, those caught smoking on playgrounds can be fined.
Yesterday Debrecen joined the list of those towns where smoking on playgrounds is prohibited.
“Protecting non-smokers, especially children, must be of paramount importance in our city. So we think smoking on playgrounds must be banned, thereby sparing the children playing there from the injurious effects of tobacco smoke. In addition, the discarded cigarette butts would not pollute the playgrounds and their surroundings.”- said Csanád Ábel Kőszeghy, local deputy fraction-leader of Jobbik.
The amended regulation will come into force on 1 July on which day public area supervisors will already be authorized to fine those who smoke on playgrounds. The sum can be tens of thousands of forints.
